• A former elementary and middle school speech-language pathologist, Kacie is passionate about developing leaders in underresourced communities.  She has a strong vision for coming alongside whole families and assisting them to achieve their full potential.  Before coming to Harbor House, she was the founder of The GreenHouse, a nonprofit organization in Sacramento where she served as Executive Director for ten years.  She and her husband Steve have three teenage sons who keep them busy with soccer games, baseball games, and concerts.

  • Ashly is an Oakland native that is passionate about empowering young people in Oakland to use their God-given gifts to become agents of change in their communities.  As licensed minister in the Assemblies of God fellowship, Ashly is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary.  When she's not at Harbor House, you'll probably find Ashly at Oakland's street fairs and festivals, eating out with friends, or reading and journaling by the water at Jack London Square.

  • Dee AckHart | Director of Administration

Dee was once a youth at Harbor House so she rivals Maria for being involved in our ministry the longest.  Dee's roots in our community run deep.  In fact, her fourth grade teacher at Lazear Elementary was Olive Freeman, the founder of Harbor House!  Dee has many fond memories of coming to Harbor House as a youth for Bible Clubs and after-school programs.  As a teen in the 80s, she helped answer phones at Harbor House (as seen in the photo to the left) and now she gets to do that again a few decades later as our Director of Administration.

  • Maria, who was once a youth in the afterschool program herself, has been on staff at Harbor House longer than any other staff member.  She attended Laney College and would like to see all of the Harbor House youth get a college education. Maria and her husband have four children: one college graduate, two currently in college, and one in high school.  Maria also likes to volunteer with her church and her son's school to help the kids of Oakland flourish.

  • Laurie taught our ESL class for adults for three years as a volunteer before becoming part of our staff.  She has degrees in Special Education and Design and has always delighted in teaching children, but never imagined she'd be teaching adults.  Now she enjoys the diversity of her students and admires their eager determination to learn English. Laurie is married to Dennis and has two grown sons.

  • Alysheana St. Jules | LeaD Elementary programs assistant

In addition to being an all-star Harbor House parent for the past six years, Alysheana, "Leash," is a terrific artist who has worked with youth to create murals in Berkeley.  Leash's daughter is a seventh grader at Roosevelt Middle School who has been coming to Harbor House since she was in first grade.  The two of them love getting out of the house and trying new things.  Prior to working at Harbor House, Leash worked in customer service for Peet's Coffee.  As our Lead Elementary Assistant, Leash works closely with our Director of Education to ensure the needs of our youth and their families are met.

  • BEthany Gullat | Elementary Programs Assistant

Bethany first came to Harbor House as a summer intern and stayed on for the academic year working with our fourth and fifth grade students.  After graduating from Oakland High, Bethany started classes at Laney College.  All the while, she participated in opportunities at Harbor House to grow in her relationship with Jesus, including The Mix Youth Group and Ladies Summer Soul Care.  Bethany now serves on our staff and is also continuing her studies in Business Administration at Laney College.

  • HNIN Wai I Elementary Programs Assistant

Hnin is the newest member of our staff, though she is not new to Harbor House.  She was a Harbor House intern (in our Youth Leadership Program) for three years when she was a student at Oakland High.  Now she is a college student at UC Davis and we are thrilled to have her helping out with our summer day camp while she is home for the summer.  Some of her hobbies include cooking, playing guitar and art. She can't wait to meet the kids this summer and make sure they have lots of fun.
