• A former elementary and middle school speech-language pathologist, Kacie is passionate about developing leaders in underresourced communities.  She has a strong vision for coming alongside whole families and assisting them to achieve their full potential.  Before coming to Harbor House, she was the founder of The GreenHouse, a nonprofit organization in Sacramento where she served as Executive Director for ten years.  She and her husband Steve have three teenage sons who keep them busy with soccer games, baseball games, and concerts.

  • Ashly is an Oakland native whose life motto is "Love God, Love People, Love Oakland." She is passionate about empowering young people in Oakland to use their God-given gifts and talents to be agents of change in their communities.  A pastor in the Assemblies of God denomination, Ashly is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary.  When she's not at Harbor House, you'll probably find Ashly at Oakland's street fairs and festivals, playing board games, eating out with friends, or helping churches reveal God's love to their communities.

  • Martha, a former special education teacher with 32 years of teaching experience, joined our team of virtual tutors this spring.  She enjoyed it so much that she jumped at the chance to fill in during the maternity leave of Chelsea Cordero who directs the program.  Martha's degree in Special Education as well as her experience working with children who have special learning needs is an asset to our virtual tutoring program.  Martha is also our liaison to the missions team at First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley and has been volunteering at Harbor House for many years. Born and raised in Oakland, Martha has a deep love for our community. She and her husband Blain live only a few miles from Harbor House.

  • Tsehai found her way to Harbor House because she is passionate about development work that can bring change in people's lives. She has worked in various international organizations, including the United Nations, and has a Masters in Economics from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. Tsehai's youngest son is an enthusiastic participant in our programs at Harbor House.  Her husband and other three children are still in Ethopia and we eagerly anticipate the day when they will be reunited.

  • Maria, who was once a youth in the afterschool program herself, has been at Harbor House longer than any other staff member.  She attended Laney College and would like to see all of the Harbor House youth get a college education. Maria and her husband have four children: one college graduate, two currently in college, and one in high school.  Maria also likes to volunteer with her church and her son's school to help the kids of Oakland flourish.

  • Tim enjoys helping our youngest students in kindergarten and first grade build their skills in literacy and math.  He earned a B.A. from St. Mary's College of California in Sociology and has a heart for working with children and teens.  In his free time, he likes to walk his two dogs, go to the gym, and play video games with his friends.

  • Bethany first came to Harbor House as a summer intern and stayed on for the academic year working with our fourth and fifth grade students.  After graduating from Oakland High, Bethany started classes at Laney College.  All the while, she participated in opportunities at Harbor House to grow in her relationship with Jesus, including The Mix Youth Group and Ladies Summer Soul Care.  Bethany now serves on our staff and is also continuing her studies in Business Administration at Laney College.

  • Laurie taught our ESL class for adults for three years as a volunteer before becoming part of our staff.  She has degrees in Special Education and Design and has always delighted in teaching children, but never imagined she'd be teaching adults.  Now she enjoys the diversity of her students and admires their eager determination to learn English. Laurie is married to Dennis and has two grown sons.

  • Rebecca started her career in education 20 years ago as the Youth Program Coordinator at Harbor House, where the kids, families, and work brought joy and purpose.  Since then, she's worked as a middle school teacher, reading specialist, instructional teaching coach, and school administrator in Oakland schools.  Rebecca is excited to be back at Harbor House, leading our Learning Pod for 5th and 6th graders. She and her husband Mark have three children and love living in Oakland.

  • Haley has been a teacher for the last five years in East Palo Alto.  Currently, she is studying to get her Master's degree in Literacy while also leading one of our Learning Pods.  Haley is excited to be teaching and guiding learning for our youngest students in the K-4th Learning Pod.  Haley and her husband Andy live in Oakland.
