Youth Leadership Program
Our after-school program is solidly rooted in the principles of youth development, which indicate that youth do best when they are safe, and have access to enriching activities that expand their horizons. Teens who are part of our Youth Leadership Program (YLP) are given opportunities to utilize and develop their gifts and talents, as well as develop positive relationships with peers and adults.
We aim to develop thriving and competent teens who are growing into their potential and becoming agents of change in their community. We recognize that many teens in our community need a safe place where they can feel valued and cared for. Teens who participate in the internship will gain valuable life skills, receive academic encouragement, and develop positive relationships. The YLP internship provides these opportunities to local high school students looking for a linked learning opportunity in the field of education.
Teens interested in our program must submit an application and go through an interview process. If selected, they serve as leaders and mentors for our elementary after school program. Interns also attend monthly training sessions focused on leadership and professional development. In addition to receiving school credit for volunteer service hours, interns also receive a stipend from Harbor House.
